The Temporo Mandibular Joints
(called TMJ) or the lower articulations of the jaw, are part of the locomotive system.
A functional change generated by a malocclusion of a few microns due to an intense or stressing physical activity can lead to a gap between the TMJ
and cause multiple repercussions.
The unbalance of the maxilla axis, force our spine (for instance) to establish a compensation on 3 levels:
The distance ratio (lever arm principle) means that a malocclusion of a few microns can generate a compensation which amplitude will be geared down by 10 and can lead to pains in the neck, shoulders, back, hips or to articular noises (crackings), a limitation even a deviation of the mandibular opening.
Moreover, the middle ear is directly connected to the TMJ
by a ligament. Any distortion or contraction of these articulations can lead to buzzing, acouphenes, unbalances…
against – Pains caused by stress, falls, sport hyperactivity, dental malocclusion
on - TMJ gaps
- Abnormal muscular and skeletal compensation
– headaches, articular pains (cervical), muscular pains (lumbar), squeakings of the teeth, acouphenes.

How to practice ORA
1) Adjust the distance between the ORA bearings to your jaw and put them on your molars (teeth in the back) the wings to the bottom.
Gently clench. Do not masticate – it could lead to a premature wearing effect on the bearings.
The ORA device, with its soft bearings, repositions every articulation from the balance reposition of the TMJ.
Three simple exercises to practice one after the other. For your comfort you can put a flat pillow under your head and knees.
- On your back
- Arms along the body
- Legs outstretched, knees a little higher
- ORA device in the mouth
- Slow movements, no overdoing
a) First exercise :
In starting position
Raise your outstretched left arm vertically, against your left ear. If possible, it has to go all to way to the ground. Then, move it back to the starting position.
Alternate left and right arms.
Repeat 3 times.
b) Second exercise :
In starting position (The back must stay flat on the floor)
Bend your knees, 90°, feet flat on the floor. Imitate pedalling movements stretching your right then left leg up.
Repeat 4 or 5 times.
c) Third exercise :
In starting position
Raise your right arm. If possible, it has to go all to way to the ground (like in exercise 1). Bend your left knee and take it as close as possible to your chest. Then move it back to the starting position.
Switch round right leg/left arm and left leg/right arm.
Repeat 3 times.
- After the exercises, take ORA off, roll over and stand up, slowly.
- Sleep on the back on a firm, but not too thick, pillow.
- Sit down to put your shoes or your trousers on.
- Do not cross your legs when you are seated.
When can you practice the exercises?
- In the morning, for a good start.
- In the evening to relax and sleep better.
- Before or after practising a sport.
You can also use ORA :
Walking slowly 10 to 15 sec. a day.
Put ORA on and gently clench.
Cleaning instructions :
ORA is for individual use. It can be washed with water and a little toothpaste.
- In case of tumoral, infectious and inflammatory affections of the articulations.
- In case of serious osteoporosis
- In case of cervico-occipital hinge malformation
- In case of Schuermann’s disease

What is it ?

Temporo-mandibular joints. These articulations move when the mouth opens. The TMJ are symmetrical, mechanically dependent and synchronous.
